Faina in uniform
We picked up speed and emerged into the countryside. New impressions crowded my head […]; farms, villages, crossings, streams, old houses, stone walls, manicured pastures, all were so different and wonderful. How neat everything appeared. Each quaint little train station had window boxes and pots full of flowers […] It was the countryside of Arthur and Camelot, Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest.
— from Fighter Pilot, the Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds, describing a journey from Scotland to East Anglia in 1944 after arriving from training in P-38 fighters in the USA.
I used a ‘curtain backdrop’ (a print on fabric of a painting) rigged in the back garden to impart the illusion that she is standing on a railway station platform.
For the result of the New Forest outing and others at this time, see the award-winning documentary My Silicone Love on the web site of Sophie Dros. At the time of writing, Sophie’s Vimeo home page also contains a ‘trailer’ and a separate ‘teaser’ for the film.
The film crew from Holland set up the fireworks on the beach. They had the camera positioned to look out from behind Anoushka and me, sitting on the bench at the top of the 200 ft cliff looking out to sea, with a wide enough field of view to catch the exploding ordnance, they hoped. (Not a chance!) Given the wind direction and strength, they asked my opinion on where exactly along the beach they should launch the fireworks. I refrained from saying this has not a cat’s chance in hell of working, and I gave them my best estimate. (What the people in the houses immediately behind thought about the fireworks display at 22:00 on new year’s eve, I cannot imagine. Did they think our watches were all out of whack by two hours?)
Faina’s eyes do not close. This is a separate head. It attaches to a steel pole with a screw in the back of her head.
And this is Faina in traditional costume of Old Russia. 😀
I took this photo of Faina in an icy gale in December 2015 at Poole quay on the coast of Dorset, England, while filming for a television show in Japan.
The restaurant scene was part of the same television shoot for Japan in 2015.
